Gov. Alex Otti sacks workers employed by Ikpeazu

Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti said that civil servants employed by former governor of the state, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu at the twilight of his administration have been disengaged from the service.

This was contained in a memo sent to heads of various ministries, departments, agencies and government parastatals by the state Head of Service, Onyii Wamah, obtained by The Nation.

In the memo, the affected workers were those employed into the state civil service after December 2022. The memo read “I write to notify all Ministries, Departments, Agencies and Parastates of Government that payment of June, 2023 salary shall be based on the salary modalities used in the payment of December, 2022 salary.

“This is as a result of various anomalies identified in the submissions earlier made by the various ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs). Accordingly, Directors of Administration and Directors of Finance are to submit to the Accountant-General’s office their Nominal Rolls, Audit Clearances, as well as, their Salary Printouts for the month of December, 2022, not later than dose of work on Monday, 26 June, 2023.

“Any MDA that fails to submit the aforementioned documents to the Accountant-General’s office risks the chance of not receiving her June, 2023 salary payment. All concerned are to ensure strict compliance.”

Reacting to the development, a former deputy Chairman of Bende local government area of the state, Promise Uzoma Okoro said “Governor Alex Otti, most of your directives and decisions in the last three weeks are anti-people. Please pity the families of these civil servants and pay them without sacking them.
