Just In: Abdullahi Adamu resigns as APC national chairman – Sources

Several reports Sunday night stated that Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had resigned from his position.

According to PM News Nigeria, a source close to the APC leadership, Adamu, the former governor of Nasarawa state, resigned to avoid being fired.

The newspaper claims that among the many reasons Adamu was compelled to withdraw was his decision to not endorse President Bola Tinubu during the election.

His resignation has been demanded by several party members for the previous two weeks, and they have threatened to have him removed at this week’s NEC meeting if he doesn’t.

The party’s NEC meeting was originally scheduled for July 10 and 11, but due to the president’s abroad commitments, it was moved to Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

The source went on to say that Nuhu Ribadu, the national security adviser, was one of the individuals who advised Adamu to resign because he had turned into a liability for the party.

However, Hope Uzodimma, the governor of Imo State and the head of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, compelled him to resign as party chairman after warning him that they would oust him at the following NEC meeting if he didn’t.

Adamu’s detractors charged him with working against the president during the party’s presidential primaries, openly endorsing former Senate President Ahmed Lawan, and failing to fully support Tinubu even after he had won the party’s nomination.

Additionally, Adamu was charged with misusing party funds.

Felix Morka, the party’s national publicity secretary, did not respond to an SMS that one of our journalists sent.
