JUST IN: (Kogi Guber) APC sweeps Dino Melaye’s LGA
Dino Melaye, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the November 11, 2023 election, lost his local government to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Melaye received 6,909 votes in the Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, while Usman Ododo of the APC received 10,524 votes.
As of the time of filing this report, the collection of findings from municipal governments throughout the state was still ongoing.
Results from 21 local government areas are being tabulated in Kogi, where INEC Chairman Prof Mahmood Yakubu was present. Adavi, Ajaokuta, Ankpa, Bassa, Dekina, Ibaji, Idah, Ijumu, Igalamela-Odolu, Kabba/Bunu, Kogi, Lokoja, Mopa-Muro, Olamaboro, Ofu, Okehi, Omala, Ogori/Magongo, Okene, Yagba East and West.
Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Leke Abejide of the African Democratic Party (ADC), Dino Melaye of the PDP, and Usman Ododo of the APC, who is an ex-Auditor General of Local Government in Kogi under Governor Yahaya Bello, are among the top contenders in the November 11, 2023 election in Kogi.
Melaye had raised the alarm on Saturday about “filled result sheets” in the North Central state’s Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area. The PDP candidate also demanded that the election be thrown off due to violence and vote buying. Following that, INEC stopped voting in nine wards in the local government area.
Governorship elections were held in Bayelsa and Imo states on Saturday, with Governor Hope Uzodimma of the APC defeating Samuel Anyanwu of the PDP, Nneji Achonu of the Labour Party (LP), and 15 other opponents. Uzodimma received 540, 308 votes, defeating his nearest competitors, PDP’s Anyanwu, who received 71,503 votes, and LP’s Achonu, who received 64,081.
