Just In: President Tinubu departs Nigeria for Benin Republic for Independence anniversary

President Bola Tinubu, who is also the Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States, will attend the Republic of Benin’s 63rd independence anniversary on Tuesday, August 1, 2023.

President Tinubu will be Patrice Talon’s  Special Guest according to Dele Alake, the President’s Special Adviser on Special Duties, Communications, and Strategy.

“President Tinubu had first met with Talon on the sidelines of the summit on New Global Financing Pact in Paris, France, later at the 63rd Ordinary session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS held in Guinea-Bissau and more recently at the State House, Abuja, along with leaders of three other West African nations, where the Benin Republic President invited him for the anniversary,” said Alake. ⁣

President Tinubu had called the Beninese president’s attention to the necessity of reviewing and bolstering bilateral trade, economic, and cultural ties, emphasizing joint Customs border patrols and harmonizing rules on the front lines.

Six governors, who were invited by President Talon, will accompany Tinubu for the one-day visit, along with his personal assistants.

The six governors are Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq (Kwara), Nasir Idris (Kebbi), and Mohammed Bago (Niger).
