Just In: Prof Edoumiekumo, Chairman, committee of VCs is dead

According to a source close to the deceased’s family, Prof. Samuel Edoumiekumo, Chairman of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities, died on Saturday.

Edoumiekumo, the immediate past VC of Niger Delta University in Bayelsa State, died on Friday night following a brief illness, according to reports.

Edoumiekumo graduated from Akeindenowei Primary School in Toru Angiama in 1982 and from Ajeromi Ifelodun High School in Lagos State in 1988, earning his West Africa School Certificate.

The late economics professor earned a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and two Doctor of Philosophy degrees from the Universities of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and Nsukka.

On May 17, 2017, Seriake Dickson, the then-governor of Bayelsa State, authorized the appointment of Edoumiekumo as interim VC, NDU, following the expiration of the mandate of the former VC, Prof. Humprey Ogoni.

On May 2, 2018, he was named the school’s fourth substantive VC.

He was the chairman of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities till his death.
