Just In: Senate conclude screening, confirmation of Service Chiefs

The appointment of the Service Chiefs that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had forwarded to the Senate for legislative action were approved by the Nigerian Senate on Thursday.

The Senate President, Godswill Obot Akpabo, presided over the screening by the Committee of the Whole, which was followed by the confirmation.

The nominees were required to follow the Chamber’s protocol and identify themselves after arriving earlier in the day.

Senators met behind closed doors to discuss security concerns with the nominees following their introduction at around 11:00 am, according to the Platinum Times.

About three hours into the meeting, the Senate reopened the chambers for discussion in order to complete the confirmation.

Major General Christopher G. Musa, Chief of Defence Staff, Major General T.A. Lagbaja, Chief of Army, Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, Chief of Naval Staff, and Air Vice Marshal H. B. Abubakar, Chief of Air Staff are the Service Chiefs that were confirmed by voice vote.
