JUST-IN: Tinubu orders immediate release of 102,000 metric tons of food items

President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate release of nearly 100,000 metric tons of various food commodities from the strategic reserve and the Rice Millers Association of Nigeria as a short-term reaction to the country’s growing food deficit.
Alhaji Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, informed journalists at the State House on Thursday following a meeting of the Special Presidential Committee on Emergency Food Intervention.
Idris also stated that the government intends to import any deficits that may arise following the release of the food goods.
The Minister stated that the government will take proper action against food hoarders, noting that situations necessitate emergency measures to ensure that Nigerians have access to food.
