Kano govt raise alarm over measles outbreak
The Kano Municipal Local Government Council in Kano State has verified an epidemic of measles in certain portions of the local government jurisdiction.
Alhaji Aliyu Jinjiri Kiru, the area’s Primary Health Care Coordinator, reported this during an Emergency Preparedness Response Committee meeting at the local government secretariat.
In a statement, the area’s information officer, Fatima Abdullahi, reported the coordinator as saying they received reports of many instances of measles and other infectious diseases from various health centers in the Municipal Local Government Area.
The coordinator stated that the suspected afflicted locations with cases are Sharada, Madatai, and Gandun Albasa.
He did, however, advocate for an immediate action or response to control the infections.
Tukur Hassan, the Officer in Charge of Disease Control, confirmed that the cases had previously been referred to Murtala Special Hospital for isolation.
Alhaji Rabiu Muhd Rabiu Gwarzo, the Director of Personnel Management and interim chairman of the local government, urged citizens to go to the nearest health facilities for prompt assistance and promised to help the department combat the sickness.
The District Head of Municipal, Madakin Kano, Alhaji Yusuf Nabahani, urged all village and ward heads in the region to prioritize public health at all times because of its importance.
