Knee injury rules Neymar out of 2024 Copa América

Brazilian forward Neymar will be absent from the squad for the 2024 Copa América in the United States, as confirmed by the national team doctor, Rodrigo Lasmar, on Tuesday.

Neymar sustained a severe knee injury in October, tearing his anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus during Brazil’s World Cup qualifying defeat to Uruguay. He underwent surgery two weeks later.

The Copa América is scheduled to commence on June 20 and conclude with the final on July 14.

Lasmar stated,

“It’s too early. There’s no point in skipping steps to recover sooner and taking unnecessary risks. Our expectation is that he will be prepared to return at the start of the 2024 season in Europe, which is August,” as reported on Brazil’s Rede 98.
