The Igala Consensus Committee headed by Chairman, Kogi State Council of Ulama and Chief Imam of Ankpa, Sheikh Salman Adams and former Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Kogi State , Bishop Dr. John Ibenu and other members of the committee in their wisdom and in the spirit of equity, fairness and justice has zoned the 2023 governorship ticket to Idah federal constituency of Kogi State.
Submitting its preminary report to the National Executive of Igala Cultural and Development Association at an elaborate meeting with members of the committee including some governorship candidates at Igala Unity House, Anyigba and some governorship candidates from Kogi East Senatorial District, Sheikh Salman Adam stated that, the committee is delighted for the cooperation, love and unity demonstrated so far by the candidates and appeal to them for more cooperation and understanding for the task ahead.
He further stated that all the candidates are emminentlly qualified ,but not to polarize the contest and for amicable resolutions,they have decided to narrow it down to some of the candidates from Idah federal constituency of the state.
Responding to the report of the committee,the National President of Igala Cultural and Development Association, Alh. Ahmodu Abubakar Sadiq appreciated the committee for its wider consultations while on the assignment and further appealled to candidates from other federal constituencies of Kogi East to see reasons to aligne with the lofty ideas behind the zoning.
He appreciated Dr. Mubarak Musa ,the NNPP governorship candidate, Dr Bayawo Abdullahi PRP and representative of SDP candidate and others who were able to honour the invitation despite their busy commitments.
Alh. Ahmodu Abubakar emphasized that, the unity of Igala people is sacrosanct as they approach the 2023 governorship election in the state and appealled to the youths to be law abiding as the era of killings and destruction of lives and properties should be over for good, adding that there is no gain in killing fellow brothers in the name of politics as our ancestors are fully involved in the affairs of the land and the entire State as everyone should be mindful of his or her acts.
It could be recalled that the decision of the committee to zone the governorship ticket to Idah federal constituency is borne out of the believe that,the present Senator from Kogi East senatorial district is from Dekina/ Bassa federal constituency and he is on his second term in office and also, the former governor of Kogi state, Captain Idris Ichalla Wada hails from the area while the former governor Alh. Ibrahim Idris is from Ankpa federal constituency.
The committee appealled to candidates from other federal constituency to see this wise decision as a mechanism to enhance Igala unity while in further consultation with the candidates from Idah federal constituency to come up with one candidate among them in the spirit of unity, cohesion and development of the kingdom and the entire state.
