Lassa fever kills 9 in Benue

Nine people have been declared dead following the latest outbreak of Lassa fever in Benue State.

Dr. Sam Ngishe, the state’s The State Epidemiologist made the news on Thursday.

This comes after the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention reported 2,621 suspected Lassa fever cases and 84 deaths, for a case fatality rate of 18.6%.

According to Ngishe, the deadly sickness has affected 46 people in the state, including health professionals and internally displaced persons.

He stated that four cases were discovered among internally displaced individuals at the Ortese IDP camp in the state’s Guma LGA.
