According to information released by the Ondo State Government, food products stored in warehouses intended to be distributed as palliatives around the state have been subject to strict security procedures.
The government said that none of its storage facilities had been broken into and that the palliatives were intended to lessen the effects of the termination of fuel subsidies.
The chairman of the Palliative Strategy and Implementation Committee, Wale Akinterinwa, assured of rapid distribution of the products to vulnerable people of society while visiting the food items and agricultural inputs held in the warehouses with other members of his committee.
The state received 5,700 bags of rice from the federal government, but Akinterinwa said the state plans to give 12,000 bags of rice. The state has received N2 billion out of the N5 billion distributed by the federal government to the states.
A special Committee comprised of members from all facets of society was formed, according to the committee’s chairman, who also serves as the state’s commissioner for finance, to prevent the distribution from turning into a political party matter.
“The Federal Government gave us 5700 bags of rice. The state has bought more than that. We will start sharing very soon.
“We put together a committee at the local government level. We have good representation that cuts across the spectrum of the society.
“We have gotten N2bn and we hope that they will give us the balance. They sent maize to us but we received little amount of maize and we hoped to get the balance.”
