Mohbad’s autopsy result not in our possession – Police
The Lagos State Police Command has stated that they have not received the autopsy report of the late musician, Ilerioluwa Aloba nicknamed Mohbad, which was done two months ago.
Today, Tuesday, November 21, 2023, marks two months since the late Mohbad’s body was exhumed and an autopsy was conducted to determine the cause of the singer’s death.
Mohbad’s death on September 12 aroused outrage throughout Nigeria and beyond, prompting the police to form an investigation team to figure out what caused the singer’s death.
In September, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, tweeted that a “autopsy has been completed” and that the police were “awaiting results.”
In October, the then-Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, named major suspects in the singer’s murder, and revealed that on September 12, 2023, Mohbad vomited and experienced goosebumps after being injected three times by a nurse, Feyisayo Ogedemgbe.
Some of the individuals were later charged in court.
Last Friday, however, the state Police Command released singer Azeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley, and Balogun Samson, also known as Sam Larry, after they met their bail terms. They were arrested as part of an investigation into Mohbad’s death after recordings of the late singer being assaulted circulated on the internet.
Hundeyin said,
“The autopsy report has not been given to us. Some people have been carrying rumours that it’s ready. It’s one thing for it to be ready, it’s another thing for it to be given to us officially – that we would receive and sign a copy that we have received it. So, we don’t work with rumours, we work with facts.”
On Saturday, Nigerian singer Bella Shmurda pleaded with police to release Mohbad’s remains.
Bella took to his X account late Saturday to voice his displeasure with the lengthy delay in the delivery of Mohbad’s remains, which had been detained for autopsy for the past two months.
He asked the police to speed up the process and release the body so that a respectful funeral could be held. Bella also demanded that the autopsy results be made public as soon as possible.
“It’s been over two months since Mohbad died and his body was taken in for autopsy but there has yet to be a result, which is fine but please release his body,” he wrote. That boy deserves a proper burial and to be laid to rest. What’s going on, Naija Police? We need to know where the result is. “What happened to his body?”
However, Hundeyin went on to say that only the singer’s family lawyer could write to the pathologists to have the autopsy results released, or that they would be delivered to the police when they were ready.
