NiDCOM secures jail of Italian man who killed a Nigerian
Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, made the announcement on Thursday.
In a statement signed by NiDCOM spokesperson Gabriel Odu, Dabiri-Erewa praised the Nigerian Mission in Rome for pursuing the case and other situations involving Nigerians.
“I am glad that this case finally got justice,” she remarked. As I often say, “there must be consequences for actions.”
On July 29, 2022, while hawking, Alika Ogorchukwu was assaulted in broad daylight.
In front of several witnesses who did not intervene, the attacker battered Ogorchukwu to death with his crutches. However, some witnesses used their phones to take videos of the incident.
Ferlazzo was arrested on July 30, 2022, on suspicion of murdering Ogorchukwu and stealing his phone. According to the Italian police, Ferlazzo attacked Ogorchukwu after he requested Ferlazzo’s girlfriend to get him a handkerchief.
The event was said to have occurred at 2 p.m. on Friday in Civitanova Marche, Italy’s main central boulevard. Paramedics discovered Ogorchukwu deceased at the site.
