Niger Coup: We will fight for Nigeria’s democracy at all costs – COAS, Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja

On Saturday, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff of Nigeria, said that despite any difficulties, the military would continue to defend the country’s democracy.

Speaking at the Executive Commission Course One officers’ passing out parade at the Army School of Infantry in Jaji, Kaduna State, Gen. Lagbaja provided the assurance.

Every Nigerian, according to him, wants a prosperous and ongoing constitutional democracy that advances the interests of all well-intentioned citizens.

The COAS also cautioned the officers against engaging in any form of disobedience, emphasizing that they should exercise their constitutional obligations without regard to politics.

“I, therefore, charge all Nigerian Army personnel to be proud champions of our flourishing democracy and remain apolitical in discharging their constitutional duties.”

According to Platinum Times Nigeria, Lagbaja made the claims during the nation’s current unrest over the military dictatorship in the Niger Republic.

Last week, Niger military deposed Mohamed Bazoum, the country’s democratically elected president, allegedly due to poor leadership.
