The Nigerian Navy is the regulatory body which is solely responsible for defending the country’s territorial waterways and protection of Nigeria’s Economic Exclusive Zone.
The Nigerian Navy has a total of 18 ranks, which are divided into two categories.
These categories are allocated their salaries depending on their educational qualification and years of service.

The commissioned officers are those who joined the Nigerian Navy as a graduate or through the Nigerian Defence Academy.
These officers are regarded as senior officers and are given special preferences over others.
