Nigerians are suffering, fix refineries to end fuel importation, NANS tell FG

The National Association of Nigerian Students has urged the Federal Government to repair the country’s refineries so that the country can stop importing fuel.

This comes as NANS denounced President Bola Tinubu’s continuous gasoline imports, claiming that it will harm the economy and deepen the country’s present FX issue.

President Tinubu, according to the student leadership, should instruct Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited to take real efforts to repair the country’s malfunctioning refineries as soon as possible, emphasizing that only this would allow Nigeria to achieve self-sufficiency in oil production.

According to NANS Senate President Elvis Ekundina, who made the announcement in a statement, Nigeria can not achieve quick economic growth if it continues to import petroleum products from other countries.

According to the group, the Federal Government must handle the current energy crisis created by a severe scarcity of gasoline in the Nigerian market by not only rehabilitating the country’s refineries but also guaranteeing that they operate at maximum capacity.

According to NANS, the country’s refineries can generate enough petroleum products to match the country’s daily consumption when they are operating successfully and efficiently.

Ekundina contended that Nigeria, as an oil-producing country, does not need to import petroleum if all of the country’s refineries are operating at full capacity.

“It is our belief that refurbishing and recommissioning our faulty refineries to optimal production level will resolve the nation’s energy crisis.

“This will also resolve the challenges the country is having with foreign exchange and the worsening naira crisis.

“When we are able to repair our refineries and put them back to good use, Nigeria’s problem with fuel insufficiency and pricing will be resolved.

“It is good to have our refineries fully working alongside the Dangote refinery as this will ultimately make Nigeria a net exporter of refined petroleum products and this will also allow for stability in fuel prices,” he said.
