NLC STRIKE: Stop work till further notice – ASUU tell workers
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) national body has urged all of its members across the country to leave their jobs as of Monday midnight until further notice.
The decision was issued by ASUU President Prof Emmanuel Osodeke in a letter delivered to all union zonal coordinators and branch chairpersons on Monday evening.
He stated that the direction was a reminder of the initial directive issued by the leadership of both the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) for all workers across the country to begin industrial action on Monday at midnight.
He insisted that ASUU, as an NLC affiliate, would have to follow the direction in order to collectively protect the interests of Nigerian workers.
“So, all the leadership of our union at zone and branch levels should immediately mobilise all members to participate in the industrial action as a people united cannot be defeated,” stated the union president.
In another development, ASUU expressed great discontent with the dire economic crisis that Nigeria and its people are currently facing.
The ASUU president stated that the union’s two-day National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at Kaduna State University (KASU), Kaduna State, which ended on Sunday, November 12th, 2023, thoroughly examined the state of the nation and the university system.
