Ogun Guber: Anxiety as Appeal Court decides on Adebutu’s petition against Abiodun

Members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, are tense as the Appeal Court rules on Ladi Adebutu’s case against Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Adebutu, the PDP candidate, had already moved the tribunal to challenge Abiodun’s victory in the March 18 governorship election.

The PDP candidate claimed that the poll that resulted in Abiodun’s victory did not follow the rules of the Electoral Act.

He also alleged that the election was marred by anomalies and fraudulent activities, and that over 40,000 voters were denied the right to vote as a result of violence.

He requested that the election be declared null and void and that he be declared the winner.

However, the Hamidu Kunaza-led tribunal dismissed Adebutu’s case as lacking merit.

Not satisfied, Adebutu petitioned the Appeal Court for redress, requesting that the trial tribunal’s decision be reversed.

According to Platinum Times, members of both sides have departed Ogun State to attend the court proceedings in Lagos State.

The hearing will begin at 9 a.m. in the Court of Appeal in Igbosere, Lagos.
