Ogun: Police apprehend suspected kidnapper over sales of children to Benin Republic

Tayo Adeleke, a member of an abduction and child trafficking group, was captured by Ogun State police.

Adeleke and his gang, according to authorities, specialize in stealing children to sell in neighboring Benin Republic.

According to Platinum Times, Adeleke is currently being interrogated in police prison for his latest attempt to take children on Tuesday at Omu Pempe community in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State with two other males who are now at large.

The culprits were said to have assaulted the Baptist church in Omu Pempe around 2:00 a.m. on a motorcycle.

Their objective, it was discovered, was to take children from the church and sell them in the Republic of Benin, but Luck was against them.

Confirming the progression, Omolola Odutola, the Ogun State police spokesperson, stated that Adeleke was captured with the help of the police, the So-Safe Corps, and other vigilante organizations in the community, even as his colleagues fled through the bush.

According to the police spokesman, the suspect admitted during interrogation that “they came to the area to kidnap children.” He claims they have a racket that kidnaps children and sells them to the Republic of Benin. We have apprehended one, and he will assist us in bringing others to justice.”

Odutola also told Platinum Times that kidnappers have seen that the command has gained control of the highways in Ogun and are now attempting to operate in communities.

“So, we are calling on our traditional rulers, our community leaders in the state, to establish an internal security to barricade the entry and exit points to their communities and give security agents the necessary information to aid the security of lives and property. Villagers can easily identify strangers in their communities, they should help the police. Thank God this was a foiled one.

“The Ogun State Command under the Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alamutu, would not relent until criminals are flushed out of Ogun, wherever they are.”
