Ojo Aminat Yusuf gets N10M gift from Gov Sanwo-Olu as LASU best graduating student

Ojo Aminat Yusuf, the best graduating student from the Lagos State University, will receive a cash prize of N10 million, according to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

With a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.00 (First Class Honours), Yusuf was named the top graduating student for the 2021–2022 cohort.

On Thursday, Sanwo-Olu made the cash award announcement at the school’s 26th convocation event.

The state government would also give Yusuf additional N5 million, according to the governor, as compensation.

Sanwo-Olu made this know during his speech at the institution’s convocation in the Buba Marwa Auditorium on the Ojo campus. “We are celebrating an incredible feat attained by Miss Yusuf Aminat Imoitesemeh, who is not only graduating as the best student for the 2021/2022 academic session but also attained a perfect 5.0 CGPA.” he said

The governor stated on announcing the monetary reward, “As a reward for her brilliance, I will be giving her a token donation of N5m and the state government will give her an additional donation of N5m.”

The governor noted the university’s accomplishments while congratulating it on its 40th anniversary and 26th convocation.

“Among its achievements, LASU, in 2018, was selected among 16 other universities in Nigeria and designated ‘Africa Centre of Excellence for Innovative and Transformative Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Education’ by the World Bank, and has commenced admission of international students to the programme,” the governor said.

In her remarks, the best graduating student described how she struggled with money issues while she was a student but persisted in her pursuit of academic success.
