Oluwu of Iwo urges Tinubu to intervene in Niger coup d’etat

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been urged by the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, to utilize his authority as ECOWAS Chairman to prevent the coup attempt against President Mohamed Bazoum of the Niger Republic.
Additionally, Oba Akanbi urged President Tinubu to utilize his influence to prevent a military takeover of the nation and restore civil authority.
Oba Akanbi made this appeal on Thursday in a statement that was made public by his media assistant, Alli Ibraheem. He also urged a unified command of Africa’s military forces to make sure the coup d’etat in Niger didn’t last.
Such an action, in his opinion, “will strengthen Africa’s democracy and restore sanity to civilian government in the continent.”
The Osun monarch remarked that promoting a democratic system of government free from military intervention and meddling was essential for the strengthening of democracy in Africa.
According to him, there were two reasons why President Tinubu needed to be contacted.
According to him, “Being the ECOWAS Chairman and President of Nigeria, adjudged to be the giant of Africa, no coup must survive under your watch as ECOWAS Chairman. External authorities and forces have to be mobilized to grow Africa democracy and ensure sanity.
“Defending democracy is the primary task of ECOWAS authority. I’m convinced Tinubu will lead the body constructively by fortifying the system in favour of democracy. Democracy will survive in Africa.”
He urged President Tinubu to demonstrate resolve and surpass expectations in his new role as head of the ECOWAS.
