Osun speaker storm Ile-Ogbo/Iwo road, burst Police officers extorting passengers (video)
The Osun State Police Command has disclosed that it has identified and detained police officers shown extorting passengers in a viral video.
According to Platinum Times Nigeria, on Thursday, Adewale Egbedun, the speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, confronted police officers who were extorting drivers, particularly commercial carriers, along the Ile-Ogbo/Iwo axis.
It was also discovered that the travelers were worshippers of the Osun deity who were traveling to Osogbo in preparation for the annual Osun-Osogbo celebration, which is scheduled for Friday, August 11, 2023.
The incident’s video has now gained widespread popularity.
The state’s police officials were aware of the viral video, according to a statement by Patrick Kehinde Longe, the police commissioner, released by Yemisi Opalola, the command’s spokesperson, on Friday.
According to the statement,
“This is to inform the general public that the Osun State Police Command is aware of the viral video trending on social media showing some policemen extorting commuters along Ile-Ogbo/Iwo axis.
“The Police officers involved in this unprofessional and unethical behaviour have been identified, arrested and detained.
“The police Command frowns and condemns the act in totality as the erring police officers are currently in detention since Thursday, 10/08/2023 and undergoing investigation and eventual disciplinary procedure of orderly room trial for their unprofessional conduct while the senior officer among them has been queried accordingly.”
CP Longe also informed the public that he will not tolerate any acts of insubordination or unprofessional behavior while in charge.
