Palestinian activist Ahed Tamimi arrested over alleged incitement of violence by Israeli military

Ahed Tamimi, a well-known Palestinian activist, was detained by the Israeli military on Monday on suspicion of encouraging violence and supporting terrorist attacks against Israeli settlers.

The army stated that following her apprehension on Monday morning, the 21-year-old was handed over to Israeli security authorities for additional interrogation.

Tamimi had, roughly a week previously, made calls on Instagram for the murder of Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank, according to sources from Israeli media.

“We are waiting for you in all the cities of the West Bank, from Hebron to Jenin, we will slaughter you and you will say that what Hitler did to you was a joke,” the Palestinian is said to have written in an Instagram story.

In the Arab world, Tamimi is seen as a symbol of resistance against Israeli occupation; nevertheless, Israel sees her as a provocateur.

She slapped an Israeli soldier in the face in front of a camera in 2018, earning herself an eight-month prison sentence. She was sixteen at the time.

Since the conflict between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip began on October 7, which human rights organizations have called as the worst year in about 15 years, the situation in the West Bank has gotten worse.
