PL: Havertz late winner against Brentford sends Arsenal to top of the table
Kai Havertz scored a late winner against Brentford, sending Arsenal to the top of the English Premier League and saving goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale’s blushes.
On Sunday, championship rivals Liverpool and Manchester City will face off.
Arsenal’s 2-1 home win over Brentford on Saturday was enough to propel them to the summit for the first time in 2024.
Declan Rice’s glancing header from a Ben White cross put Arsenal ahead after 19 minutes, but Yoane Wissa levelled shortly before halftime with a sliding challenge that deflected Ramsdale’s attempted clearing into the net.
The goalie, who started for Arsenal in place of Brentford loanee David Raya, made amends with two fine saves from Ivan Toney and Nathan Collins before Havertz scored with a header in the 86th minute from another brilliant cross by White.
Brentford are presently 15th, five points above the relegation zone.
