(Plateau) Anxiety as tribunal delivers verdict on gubernatorial election today

The Plateau State Governorship Elections Petitions Tribunal will rule on the petition submitted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate during the March 18, 2023, gubernatorial election on Friday (today).

According to Platinum Times, Nentawe Yiltwatda of the APC had sought the tribunal to challenge Governor Caleb Mutfwang of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s victory in the aforementioned polls.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) pronounced Mutfwang the victor of the election after he received 525, 299 votes, defeating his nearest challenger, Yiltwatda, who received 481, 370 votes.

The governorship tribunal recently dismissed a petition filed by the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) governorship candidate, Alfred Dabwan, against Governor Mutfwang, in which he sought the nullification of the poll over the alleged omission of the party’s logo on the ballot paper of the March 18 polls.

Barr Sunday Odey, a member of the PDP’s legal team, confirmed the date of the judgment, saying, “Yes, it is real. The governorship tribunal’s decision in the lawsuit between the PDP and the APC has been set for Friday, September 22, 2023.

Meanwhile, in the bustling city of Jos and its environs, residents are bracing themselves for the ruling.

The State High Court complex, which houses the tribunal, is already a focus point, with neighboring recreational facilities ordered to remain closed today (Friday).

Security has been greatly increased to ensure a seamless and secure process at this key juncture in Plateau State’s political landscape.
