Police dismiss trigger happy cop, set to commence trial on July 7

Idowu Owohunwa, the commissioner of police for Lagos State, has authorized the dismissal of policeman Kabiru Odejimi for allegedly shooting and killing Idris Bakare, a 24-year-old generator technician, on May 28 in the Oregun region of Lagos State.

According to reports, Odejimi and his colleagues stormed a party in the neighborhood while he was assigned to the Alausa Police Division.

It was said that the trigger-happy police officers had shot a few times while harassing the partygoers. However, Bakare was struck by one of the bullets and later bled to death.

Odeyemi fired the shot that killed Bakare, according to investigations conducted by the police after the incident.

In a statement made accessible to our correspondent, Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer, claimed that the recommendation for Odeyemi’s dismissal had been granted on Wednesday.

He stated that the officer who is under fire will be charged on Friday.

The statement read,

“The recommendation for dismissal of Inspector Kabiru Odeyemi was today approved. This paves the way for his arraignment which will take place on Friday, July 7, 2023.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Idowu Owohunwa, assures Lagosians of his unwavering determination to police the state within the dictates of rule of law, civility and respect for human life.”
