Protesters storm APC secretariat amid NWC inauguration in Abuja

Numerous protesters from the Cross Rivers State Chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, stormed the party’s headquarters on Thursday, saying that their position had been taken.

The demonstrators attacked the National headquarters and fought with intimidating security guards while calling for the reinstatement of Dr. Betta Edu in the position of National Women Leader, which has since been given to Edo State.

The protest occurred a few hours before the National Working Committee, or NWC, members were inaugurated, even though they were denied entry to the APC national secretariat.

They bemoaned that “the outgoing National Deputy Chairman for the North, Senator Abubakar Kyari, was replaced by Borno party chairman, Ali Dalori while the founder of Sister-To-Sister Empowerment Worldwide, Dr. Mary Idele from Edo State was elected to occupy the office of the National Women Leader previously held by Dr. Betta Edu.” The protesters shouted at each other while holding placards high above their heads.

They could hear the protesters crying out, “This is injustice.”

On Wednesday in Abuja, the National Working Committee announced a fresh batch of elected zonal officers for the NWC.

After the unveiling, APC National Secretary Senator Ajibola Basiru said that the election of new officials was in line with the direction given to them at a meeting held at the Transcorp Hilton on August 3, 2023, in Abuja.
