Concerns have been raised in Katsina over the armed robber and car-snatching suspects that broke out of the Katsina Central Correctional Facility.
One of the escapees, Abba Kala, is thought to have planned several carjackings and robberies in Katsina, Plateau, and other neighboring states.
It was alleged that Kala planned a car snatching operation using his phone while he was being held at the Katsina correctional institution.
Although escaping from the custody of security forces was not a novel occurrence, Muhammad Abdulmumini Haruna, the controller of correctional services in Katsina, acknowledged the incidence to a segment of the media.
Crime suspects escaping from the care of security personnel is not unprecedented. That has been demonstrated by the army and police, who have the ability to fire instantly.
“So, it is true that two persons who are awaiting trial sneaked out of the correctional centre. But I have informed our sister security agencies and even shared the information with motor parks, and fortunately we have rearrested one while we are on the pursuit of the other,” he said.
Many locals were wondering how the two suspects managed to smuggle themselves out of a heavily guarded facility like a prison without being noticed by security personnel.
The unfortunate disappearance of the two dangerous suspects from the correctional facility has raised anxieties and apprehension in Katsina, despite assurances from officials that there is no cause for alarm and that one of the escapees has been apprehended again.
