Resign now – Datti Baba-Ahmed tells Tinubu, Shettima
The Labour Party’s (LP) presidential running mate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has demanded that President Bola Tinubu and his vice, Kashim Shettima, quit.
Following Tinubu and Shettima’s resignations, Baba-Ahmed argued Senate President Godswill Akpabio ought to be permitted to hold a second presidential election.
In an interview with Arise Television, he made the call in response to a query regarding the prospect of cooperating with Tinubu’s administration.
Following the 2023 presidential election, Baba-Ahmed steadfastly maintained that Tinubu and Shettima had been sworn in fraudulently. Consequently, the LP refused to work with a government that it considered to be illegitimate.
In his words,
“Can Tinubu and Shettima just resign and let the Senate President conduct another election? They were fraudulently sworn in, and we will not work with an illegitimate government. If it is not constitutional, we are not touching it.”
His remarks follow a press conference by the LP presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in which he accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Supreme Court of incompetence in handling election matters.
