Rivers: Oko-Jumbo led Assembly screens, confirms Iboroma as commissioner-designate

The Rivers State House of Assembly, chaired by Victor Oko-Jumbo, on Monday vetted and confirmed Danagogo Iboroma, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, as a member of the State Executive Council.

The development comes just five days after Oko-Jumbo was elected the Assembly’s new speaker.

He thanked Governor Fubara for providing another location for the Assembly to carry on with its legislative functions pending the time a new chamber is reconstructed. This comes after Governor Fubara issued an Executive Order relocating the sitting of the House of Assembly to the auditorium at the administrative block of the Government House.

The decision, according to Governor Fubara, was taken because the current House of Assembly complex in its present state is not safe and constitutes a threat to the lives of the staff and the lawmakers.

Danagogo Iboroma, may have been nominated to replace Professor Zaccheus Adangor, who recently resigned as the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice after he rejected his redeployment to the Ministry of Special Duties; Governor’s Office.

Expectedly, the majority of the questions thrown at the Commissioner-nominee border on the issues of loyalty and commitment to service.

With the question-and-answer session over, Iboroma was then granted permission to take his leave to allow the lawmakers to deliberate further on his nomination

Their deliberations however did not take much time as the Assembly unanimously agreed to confirm his nomination as a member of the Rivers State Executive Council.

With the matter of the day concluded, the Assembly immediately adopted a motion moved by the leader to adjourn sitting until Thursday, May 16.
