Senate confirms Tinubu’s appointments for NAHCON, NHIA
On Wednesday, the Senate confirmed nominees appointed by President Bola Tinubu to serve as the Director General of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), commissioners for the National Population Commission (NPC), and chairman and members of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
The nominations were ratified following the presentation and discussion of reports from the Senate Committees on Health, Secondary and Tertiary Education, National Identity Card and Population, and Foreign Affairs.
Dr. Kelechi Ohiri was confirmed by the Senate as NHIA’s Director General.
The nominations confirmed for the NAHCON are Malam Jalal Arabi as chairman, Aliu AbdulRazak as Commissioner for Policy, Personnel, and Finance, Prince Anofiu Elegushi as Commissioner for Operations, and Prof. Abubakar Yagawal as Commissioner for Planning and Research.
Prior to their confirmation, the Senate separated into the Committee of the Whole to review each committee’s report independently.
In his closing remarks, Senate President Godswill Akpabio praised the committees for their rigorous scrutiny of each nominee as well as the reports they gave.
He also congratulated the nominees on their appointments and urged them to justify their positions by carrying out their duties effectively.
