Sit-At-Home: Extradite Simon Ekpa – Senate urges FG

On Wednesday, the Senate denounced the South East geographic region’s sit-at-home protest on Monday and urged the Federal Government to work with the Finnish Government to extradite pro-Biafran activist Simon Ekpa for prosecution.

The upper chamber also decided to invite the foreign minister (when appointed) and other pertinent parties to conduct a thorough inquiry and bring other act sponsors to justice.

An faction of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is allegedly responsible for enforcing the illegal sit-at-home order throughout the five South-East states of Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Abia, and Ebonyi.

In order to increase pressure on the government to free IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, who is being held by the Department of State Services (DSS) and facing accusations relating to terrorism, the unlawful order was issued in 2021.

In July 2023, Peter Mbah, the governor of Enugu State, claimed that the Monday stay-at-home policy costs his state approximately N10 billion per week.
