Spain building fire claim three lives
A fire broke out in a building near Alicante in Spain’s southeast, killing three people, including a toddler, authorities said Monday.
Following the fire at Villajoyosa, approximately 120 people were evacuated.
According to authorities, fifteen persons were lightly hurt and sent to the hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.
The fire, which began about 2:15 a.m. (0115 GMT) on the 11th floor of a 24-story building, has been extinguished, and the remaining inhabitants will be able to return to the building on Monday.
The fire broke out less than two weeks after another fire killed ten people in Valencia, the same region’s port city, in a tragedy that shook the country.
The fire in Valencia destroyed a 14-story high-rise structure and an adjacent 10-story block that had 138 units.
Experts believe the building’s extremely flammable cladding contributed to the fire’s quick spread.
It caused concerned property owners to seek expert assistance to allay their anxieties that their own properties were under threat.
Just 10 days ago, at least four people were killed in a massive fire that raced through a 14-story apartment building in Valencia, eastern Spain, but officials cautioned Friday that the death toll might grow dramatically.
Nineteen individuals remained missing, according to a city hall source who spoke with AFP on condition of anonymity.
