Strike: Reps adjourn plenary, demands speedy resolution of FG, labour dispute
Due to the strike declared by Organized Labour, the House of Representatives has adjourned plenary.
After “Matters of urgent public importance” were discussed and adopted, Deputy Speaker of the House Benjamin Kalu asked for a recess.
As he moderated the debate, Kalu, an All Progressives Congress (APC) member representing Bende Federal Constituency in Abia State, asked the National Assembly leadership to collaborate with organized labor to find a solution that would benefit the country as a whole.
Lawmakers who attended the plenary regretted the hardships that Nigerians have faced since the start of the strike, emphasizing that every effort must be made to end the disagreement once and for all.
Speaker Tajudeen Abbas stated in his ruling prior to adjournment that the House leadership will meet with its Senate counterpart as soon as possible, assuring Nigerians that the problem would be taken seriously and dealt with expeditiously.
As a result, the House was adjourned until Thursday, and all items on the Order Paper, including legislation and motions, were put on hold.
