Subsidy Removal: NLC converge, begins protest in Lagos (photos)
Protests over the elimination of the gasoline subsidy have been started by members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
The Ikeja under-bridge in Lagos is now surrounded by demonstrators.
The federal government was given a seven-day deadline by the NLC to change all “anti-poor” and “insensitive” policies.
The union also urged its councils and members in every state to participate in the nationwide strike planned for August 2 in protest of the nation’s skyrocketing cost of living.
The federal government’s efforts to put an end to the planned strike and demonstration were unsuccessful.
