Super Eagles beat 10-man Mozambique 3-2 to clinch first friendlies victory in 5 years

On Monday, Nigeria’s Super Eagles overcame 10-man Mozambique 3-2 at the Estadio Municipal de Albufeira in Albufeira, Portugal.
Geny Catamo put Mozambique ahead in the sixth minute, with Witi assisting.
Terem Moffi equalized for the Super Eagles in the 18th minute.
In the 20th minute, Mozambique goalkeeper Ernan Siluane made a spectacular save to deny Frank Onyeka.
A minute later, Siluane saved another shot by Onyeka.
The goalkeeper, though, was unable to prevent the Brentford midfielder from giving Nigeria the lead for the first time in the game a minute before halftime.
In the 37th minute, one of Mozambique’s defenders fouled Joe Aribo, reducing the team to ten men.
After 45 minutes, the Super Eagles were awarded a penalty for a hand ball inside the opponent area.
Moses Simon converted the penalty kick to put the Super Eagles ahead 3-1 at the half.
Mozambique cut the deficit in half in the 55th minute thanks to Faisal Bangal.
Twenty minutes from time, substitute Umar Sadiq’s goal was called out for offside.
Sadiq had another goal disallowed for offside in the 86th minute.
Jose Peseiro’s team will now focus on their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
