Tight security as Rivers Assembly faction holds plenary

On Tuesday, a faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly took control of the Assembly facility and convened a plenary session.
Over 20 lawmakers loyal to the controversial Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, attended the sitting, according to Platinum Times.
The MPs discussed on the suspension of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, PASAN, strike and the order for the police to investigate the October 29 fire incident in the chamber.
It was unclear whether lawmakers reopened the impeachment procedures against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, which sparked earlier political tensions in the state.
Meanwhile, police patrol vans have been stationed at the Assembly complex’s entrance.
However, the Assembly members’ restrictions on vehicular and people movements have finally been eased at Moscow Road.
After deploying more troops to the main gate, some senior police officers were seen closing the entrance to the House of Assembly complex.
This comes 48 hours after Edison Ehie, the factional Speaker of the House, claimed an assassination attempt on his life on Sunday night.
