Tinubu arrives in Cotonou for the anniversary of the Benin Republic’s independence.
In order to attend the Republic of Benin’s 63rd anniversary of independence, President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Cotonou.
On Tuesday morning, the Nigerian leader arrived. President Patrice Talon and other senior government officials welcomed him.
Six governors, including Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq (Kwara), Nasir Idris (Kebbi), and Mohammed Umar Bago (Niger), were in the president’s entourage.
This will be Tinubu’s third encounter with the Talon since the latter took office.
They had first crossed paths outside the New Global Financing Pact meeting in Paris, France.
Both leaders later met to discuss the political situation in the Niger Republic, where the president of the Benin Republic had invited him for the anniversary, at the 63rd Ordinary session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS, which was held in Guinea-Bissau and recently in Abuja.
President Tinubu had brought the Beninese president’s attention to the need to evaluate and improve ties between their two nations’ cultures, trade, and economies, emphasizing coordinated border patrols by the Customs and harmonizing rules on the front lines.
