Tinubu’s plea to delay release of school records to Atiku granted by US Court
Tinubu’s appeal to delay delivery of school records to Atiku is granted by a US Court. U.S. District Judge Nancy Maldonado has consented to stay an order forcing Chicago State University, CSU, to provide certain academic documents of Bola Tinubu, who is now the President of Nigeria.
Magistrate Judge Jeffrey Gilbert had ordered the CSU to produce the records by the end of Thursday two days ago.
However, according to CBS News, during an emergency hearing on Thursday, Judge Maldonado directed attorneys on both sides to present more arguments by next Thursday.
The Nigerian President’s lawyers contended that Gilbert’s ruling should be reviewed by a district judge.
And Maldonado approved their plea, saying she will rule as soon as possible after that.
“I will have a busy weekend.
“The issue is of process and rules. I’m a rule person; that’s why I’m a judge. This case is quite involved. I am aware of the stakes. It’s more important to me to get this right,” she held.
According to Platinum Times, Tinubu filed an Emergency Motion asking the Chicago Court to postpone the release of his academic records until at least Monday, September 25th.
The Chicago Court had ordered the CSU to turn over to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar all records connected to Tinubu’s studentship within two days.
Atiku maintains that Tinubu’s claim to have graduated from Chicago State University is false.
He then filed an application seeking documents to indicate that the Nigerian leader was not eligible to run for president when he did.
