Torn knee ligament injury: Neymar undergoes successful surgery
In order to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus injury sustained during a national team game last month, Neymar underwent surgery on Thursday at a hospital in his home Brazil.
“The operation was a success. We’re very satisfied with the result,” said Rodrigo Lasmar, the Brazilian team doctor who performed the surgery.
“He had a reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament and the two meniscus injuries have been repaired.”
The doctor also stated that Neymar is anticipated to stay at Mater Dei hospital in the southeast city of Belo Horizonte for an additional 24 to 48 hours until he heals.
Neymar had surgery from Lasmar in 2018 for a foot fracture.
After colliding with rival midfielder Nicolas de la Cruz on October 17, during Brazil’s 2-0 loss to Uruguay in a World Cup qualifying match, the 31-year-old was stretchered off in tears.
Exams revealed that the football player’s most serious knee injury was a damaged left anterior cruciate ligament.
He is anticipated to miss several months due to the injury, including Brazil’s forthcoming qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup this month against Colombia and fierce rivals Argentina.
Neymar has had a number of ailments recently; he had surgery in March to treat an ankle issue that kept him out of action for six months.
His six seasons at Paris Saint-Germain, where he was signed in 2017 for a world record 222 million euros ($236 million), were largely marred by fitness issues.
In August 2023, he signed a contract for Al Hilal for an estimated $95 million.
Notwithstanding his struggles with injuries, Neymar made history in September when he overtook the great Pele to become Brazil’s all-time top goal scorer with 79 goals.
