UCL: Why we lost 4-3 to FC Copenhagen – United Coach Ten Hag

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, expressed his displeasure of the “extremely severe” red card given to Marcus Rashford during their Champions League 4-3 loss to FC Copenhagen on Wednesday.

Ten Hag also took issue with how two of the hosts’ goals were awarded.

The Red Devils took the lead after 30 minutes thanks to two goals each from Rasmus Hojlund.

But after Rashford was given a straight card for fouling Elias Jelert, the game was altered.

This occurred in the 42nd minute, and with goals by Mohamed Elyounoussi and Diogo Goncalves for the home team, the score was 2-2 at the half.

After United had taken the lead thanks to a penalty kick from Bruno Fernandes, Lukas Lerager and Roony Bardghi scored to give Copenhagen the victory.

“The red card changed everything. It’s become a different game, but then you concede two goals that never should count,” Ten Hag told TNT Sports.

“It was a very harsh decision; I’m sure he was going for the ball.

“I thought already the review was over and then he went to the screen. So also, I think the referee wasn’t sure.”
