UEFA fines Man United, Barcelona for breaking fair play rule
Manchester United and Barcelona have been penalised by UEFA for breaking the Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules, according to a statement released on Friday.
In 2022, Barcelona was penalized €500,000 for reporting “profits on disposal of intangible assets” incorrectly, while United was fined €300,000 for “minor break-even deficits.”
The team issued a statement saying, “While disappointed by the decision, Manchester United accepts this fine for what UEFA acknowledges to be a minor technical violation of its previous Financial Fair Play rules.”
For the same offense as United, Turkish clubs Konyaspor and Istanbul Basaksehir were each fined €100,000. Other teams who were penalized included Belgian winners Royal Antwerp, Anderlecht, and Cypriot side APOEL.
The choices were made in response to the most recent cycle of monitoring utilizing FFP requirements, which have since been replaced by new sustainability regulations introduced the year prior.
High-profile European teams that reached settlements with UEFA in September of last year, including Paris St. Germain, AC Milan, and Inter Milan, have achieved goals established for the fiscal year 2022.
These clubs would be checked for compliance the following season, UEFA added.
