UN, Russia-Africa Submit: VP Shettima departs Nigeria to represent President Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu will be represented at both the Russia-Africa Summit and the United Nations Food Systems Summit in Rome by Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima.

In order to attend the two important international summits in Rome, Italy, and St. Petersburg, Russia, Shettima is planned to leave Abuja on Sunday.

Olusola Abiola, his spokesperson, revealed this in a statement on Sunday.

The Vice President will participate in the first Stocktaking Moment (STM) Summit in Rome with other world leaders. The summit’s topic is “Transforming Food Systems for People, Planet, and Prosperity,” and it will take place from July 24 through July 26.

The Vice President will serve as the moderator of two high-level sessions at the summit, one on “Scaling up Multi Stakeholders Collaboration and Investment in the Implementation of Food Systems Transformation Pathways in Nigeria” and the other on “Innovative Financing for Food System Transformation: the Case of Nigeria.”

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the World Food Programme (WFP), the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub, and the larger UN system are all working together to organize the event.

Following the summit, Shettima will travel from Rome to St. Petersburg in Russia on Wednesday, July 26.

“While in Russia, the Vice President will join other political and business leaders at the 2nd Russia–Africa Summit and Russia–Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum focused on strategizing to enhance relations between Russia and the African continent, among other benefits,” the statement read.

“Also, Vice President Shettima will participate in bilateral meetings with representatives of relevant Russian senior government officials and business leaders to discuss relations between Russia and Nigeria.”

The Vice President is scheduled to return to the nation at the end of the week, accompanied by senior government officials from Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
