Veteran Urhobo highlife singer Sally Young passes on at 91

The famed Urhobo musician Chief Daniel Iriferi, also known as Chief Sally Young, has died at the age of 91.

According to Platinum Times, the legendary Urhobo musician, who originated from Abraka in Delta State’s Ethiope East Local Government Area, died on Sunday following a brief illness.

The Urhobo music maestro dominated the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s with hit songs like ‘Oko Oko’, ‘Weji Vwe Vwo’, and many others.

Chief Sally Young’s contribution to Urhobo music at the time brought great depth and meaning to Urhobo’s culture heritage.

This helped him become a legendary figure in the music industry.

Although news of the famed Urhobo musician’s death had already spread on social media, his family had yet to provide an official confirmation of the transition at the time of reporting this article.
