Wike vs Fubara: Rivers Assembly faction passes vote of confidence on Gov Sim

They vowed to assist Fubara in carrying out his consolidation and continuity program for the good of the state.

A number of Rivers State House of Assembly lawmakers led by Edison Ehie voted to support Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The resolution was passed at the day’s plenary session, parliamentarians said in a statement on Tuesday.

They stated that the decision was based on Fubara’s developmental achievements and security actions to keep the oil-rich state quiet, promising to “continuously give the governor the required support to accomplish his consolidation and continuity agenda to benefit the state.”

While denouncing the reported attack on Ehie’s residence and the burning of the Rivers State House of Assembly’s hallowed chamber three weeks ago, members urged the governor to begin reconstruction work as soon as feasible.

They also emphasized the importance of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and other security authorities investigating the attacks and apprehending the perpetrators.

The words come after reports that an opposing group of parliamentarians led by Martin Amaewhule met earlier in the day and resolved that the IGP investigate the burning of the Assembly Chambers and that those responsible be prosecuted.

The Amaewhule faction is claimed to have gathered in the auditorium of the State Assembly Complex on Moscow Road, which is well guarded.

The factional Assembly leader, Edison Ehie’s, residence was allegedly attacked by some police officers on Monday, raising political tensions in Rivers State.

Olatunji Disu, the Commissioner of Police, denied the claim as false.
