22-year-old Nigerian footballer Mebude battles for life after auto crash in Belgium

Former Rangers star Dapo Mebude has been transported to the hospital following a horrific automobile incident, according to reports from Belgium.
Mebude, who came through Glasgow’s youth before making his senior debut as a teenager, is now on the books of Belgian club Oostende. According to Belgian broadcaster GVA, the footballer’s injuries are life-threatening.
The London-born winger spent several years on Rangers’ books before making his debut under Steven Gerrard at Ibrox. He departed for Watford in 2021 and moved to Oostende the following year.
According to the GVA report, Mebude was rescued by the fire department after a car crashed into a tree. The boy is claimed to have been transferred to a hospital in the Bruges area, with no other vehicles involved.
“The practice match between Knokke and KVO was canceled due to a car accident caused by player Dapo Mebude,” a statement from Mebude’s club said. “He was rushed to the hospital, but there is no more information on his condition. “Our thoughts are with Dapo and his family.
Following Oostende’s announcement on social media, some fans responded with prayer emojis, as did fellow Belgian team Beveren. “I hope you’re doing well, Dapo, and I’m thinking about you,” read another remark.
Multiple social media pages with Rangers badges as avatars also extended their best wishes. Meanwhile, one Rangers podcast shared Oostende’s message and expressed their wish for Dapo’s full recovery.
Mebude, who has been capped by Scotland up to Under-21 level, played five top-flight games last season as Oostende was relegated. He has appeared twice this season, the second being in September, and was an unused substitute in a cup match at the end of October.
Former Rangers manager Gerrard, now at Al-Ettifaq, praised Mebude’s talent when he gave him his professional debut back in 2019. Mebude understood the significance of the comments and promised to move forward. (The Punch)
