On matchday one of the 2023–24 season, there will just be the opening game of the Nigeria Professional Football League in Ibadan.
At the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, Plateau United and Shooting Stars will square off.
Gbenga Elegbeleye, the NPFL’s chairman, revealed that the choice is consistent with the custom set up the previous season.
He continued by saying that the Super Eagles game on September 10 at Uyo made the choice necessary.
“Remember that last season’s opening day fixture was the match in Uyo between Akwa United and Bendel Insurance. The other nine fixtures were played the following weekend, and it is one of the traditions we are bringing into the new league era,” he stated.
The new NPFL season will kick off on September 9.
