Senate orders emergency meeting with Service Church over raising insecurity

Worried about the country’s deteriorating security, the Senate voted on Thursday to summon the service chiefs.

The upper house made the verdict on Thursday after deliberating a motion on Wednesday concerning the kidnapping of five female students from the Federal University Dunsin-Ma in Katsina state.

General Christopher Musa, Chief of Defence Staff; Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff; Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, Chief of Naval Staff; and Air Marshall Hassan Abubakar, Chief of Air Staff, will be summoned.

The Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, have also been invited.

They encouraged the military to execute special operations to expel bandits in the North-West and other parts of the nation, and they urged the Federal Government to solve the armed forces and police manpower shortage.

The senators also emphasized the importance of establishing state police as one of the solutions to the country’s security concerns.

The conference with the military chiefs, however, has yet to be scheduled.
