Kogi guber: SDP candidate Muritala Ajaka leads protest to Force Headquarters over killings
In a show of protest against the deaths of three police officers and several party members in Anyigba, Kogi State, Social Democratic Party (SDP) members stormed the Police headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.
Muritala Yakubu Ajaka, the party candidate for the governorship in the November 11 election, spearheaded the demonstration.
The candidate, accompanied by notable party members and supporters, said that CP Bethrand Onuoha, the state commissioner of police, had compromised the protection of people and property in the state and requested that he be removed from office and prosecuted.
The attack on Sheikh Ibrahim, the Campaign Director General of the SDP, in the early hours of Tuesday by some thugs purporting to be part of a state joint taskforce, sparked trouble.
Six SDP supporters were taken hostage during the event, which resulted in the deaths of three police officers.
The SDP governorship candidate Ajaka, the campaign director general Col. Suleiman Babanawa (retd), and a former deputy governor of Kogi State, Simon Achuba, were meeting with the inspector general of police, Kayode Egbetokun, as of the time this report was filed from the Police Force headquarters gate.
